Methodology
Ranking is editorial, not paid. Even when we earn a commission on an outbound link, the ranking order comes from the criteria below — not from which vendor pays the most.
Ranking criteria
Every recommendation is evaluated across four dimensions:
- Real dollar cost for the specific operational scenario — including hidden FX spreads, wire fees, monthly minimums, and setup costs
- Cross-border access — which countries can sign up, which need workarounds, which are blocked outright; KYC friction by country-of-residence
- Compliance and tax fit — W-8BEN handling, 1099 reporting, entity-formation compatibility, OFAC exposure, tax treaty coverage
- Vendor durability — how long the vendor has served the segment we're covering, funding runway, regulatory position
Where the numbers come from
- Pricing: published vendor pages, snapshotted with date. Refreshed at least once per quarter.
- User sentiment: Reddit / HackerNews / verified Trustpilot review clusters. We link the source when we quote.
- Vendor-specific tests: for major vendors we open real accounts and document what actually happens. Findings noted on the page.
What we don't do
- No sponsored post format — vendors cannot pay for placement or wording
- No AI-only content — every published page has editor review, sourced pricing, and at least one cross-border operational callout
- No repetition-for-SEO — we don't publish the same comparison three times with different titles
Affiliate disclosure
Programs currently active (as of publication): see individual page footers. Every page states which links pay us and which don't. If you spot a missing disclosure, email info@crossborderplus.com and we will fix it.
